Magadi is known as the birthplace of Kempegowda I, the founder of Bengaluru, and is home to the historic Someshwara Temple, the Kempegowda birthplace memorial, the Ranganatha Swamy Temple at Tirumale and the Sri Kalyani Mutt. It is also the closest town to Savandurga — one of Asia's largest monolith hills and a popular trekking destination — and to Manchanabele Reservoir.
